As a traveler, I've always been drawn to the idea of staying in unique and unconventional accommodations. While hotels can offer all the amenities, there's something special about discovering a one-of-a-kind Airbnb that offers a different kind of experience. From treehouses to yurts, converted shipping containers to tiny houses, I've fallen in love with the variety of eccentric short term rental options available to travelers today.
In this post, I'll be sharing my passion for exploring and discovering these hidden gems with you, while showcasing nine of my all-time favorite unique stays.
Sanbornton, New Hampshire
Tucked away in the woods of New Hampshire, The G Frame is the perfect retreat for those seeking to disconnect from the outside world and immerse themselves in nature. This off-grid cabin offers a unique blend of rustic charm and modern comfort, making it the perfect destination for a peaceful getaway.
The cabin features a cozy living room with a wood-burning stove, a fully-equipped kitchen, and a loft bedroom with a comfortable queen-sized bed. The highlight of the property, however, is the woodstove sauna. The separate barrel sauna is just a few steps away from the cabin, allowing you to relax and rejuvenate while surrounded by the beautiful forest scenery.
The G Frame is completely off the grid, powered by solar panels and a propane generator. While the cabin may lack modern amenities like Wi-Fi and electricity, it provides a unique opportunity to disconnect and focus on what truly matters - nature, relaxation, and peace of mind. During my stay at the G-Frame with my partner we played several rounds of Scrabble- our favorite words being wicked, quizzer, manic & alpine.
The location of The G Frame is perfect for those looking to explore the surrounding area. The cabin is located near several hiking trails and ski resorts, as well as the beautiful Lake Winnipesaukee. In the evenings, relax on the porch with a glass of wine or roast marshmallows by the fire pit.

Located on the other side of the New Glampshire property, the Scenic Rural Camp Site is another amazing spot. Situated in the middle of spanning hills, this glamp-site offers a serene setting for your next camping adventure.
The property is 2o private acres surrounded by rolling hills and lush forests. The tent also has ample lighting, making it easy to navigate in the dark. Though you are provided with several light sources, there is no electrical. This is exactly the type of stay where my Jackery comes in handy.
Aside from the comfortable accommodations, the campsite also has plenty of outdoor activities to enjoy. Take a hike around the property, go fishing in the nearby streams and ponds, or simply relax by the campfire and roast marshmallows.
One of the highlights of this campsite is the stunning views of the surrounding countryside. Whether you're sipping your morning coffee or stargazing at night, the views are breathtaking and will leave you feeling refreshed and inspired.
Marshfield, Vermont
The Hyggelig Hytte Cozy Vermont Cabin & Sauna is a charming little hideaway tucked away in the woods of Marshfield, Vermont. This rustic cabin is the perfect place to unwind, unplug, and reconnect with nature. Whether you're looking for a romantic retreat or a solo escape, this cozy cabin has everything you need to relax and rejuvenate.
The cabin is situated on a peaceful, wooded property, and it boasts all the modern amenities you need to be comfortable. The living space is warm and inviting, with a comfortable custom viking inspired bed, a wood-burning stove, and plenty of natural light streaming in through the windows. If you're looking for a unique and unforgettable Airbnb experience in the heart of Upstate New York, the Mariaville Goat Farm Tree House is a must-visit. Located in Pattersonville, New York, this cozy treehouse is nestled among the trees on a working goat farm.
The tree house is a charming and rustic accommodation that sleeps four people. It is elevated above the ground and features a cozy bedroom with two floor mattresses, a lower living area an outdoor kitchen, and a private deck that offers stunning views of the surrounding countryside. The bathroom facilities are located in a separate area nearby.
The farm is located just 25 miles west of Albany, and is home to a herd of goats, chickens, sheep & rabbits. All guests are welcome to visit and interact with the animals.
Mariaville Goat Farm also offers Goatie Cuddles as a separate activity, which I have now participated in on two separate occassions. It is only $10/pp & worth every penny.

The yurt is beautifully decorated with rustic and bohemian touches, providing a comfortable and cozy atmosphere. It is equipped with a double & a single sized bed, a wood stove for heat, and a private bathroom with a composting toilet and outdoor shower.
One of the highlights of staying at the Mariaville Goat Farm Yurt is the opportunity to interact with the farm animals. The owner Ed, is so passionate about his goats and welcomes guests to join them for Goatie Cuddles and Goat Yoga.
In addition to the farm activities, there are plenty of outdoor activities to enjoy in the area. The yurt is located near the Adirondack Mountains, offering hiking, skiing, and snowshoeing opportunities. The nearby Howe Caverns is also a popular attraction, providing visitors with the chance to explore underground caves and take a boat ride on an underground lake.

The interior of the yurt is spacious and airy, with a cozy wood stove to keep you warm on chilly evenings. The yurt can accommodate up to 3 guests with a queen-size bed and several available blow up mattresses.
It is a perfect destination for outdoor enthusiasts, with easy access to a range of outdoor activities such as hiking, fishing, boating, and skiing. The yurt is just a short drive away from the nearby ski resorts of Shawnee Peak and Sunday River, making it an ideal winter retreat. Be sure you're comfortable with wood stove use before booking this yurt between October & March as it does get extremely cold & without consistent heating it could potentially be quite uncomfortable.
The yurt also has a fully equipped kitchenette, allowing you to prepare your own meals and enjoy them on the deck overlooking the surrounding woods. Do bring your own water as there is none running in the yurt.
